A Rebel’s Prompt: A Grand Party
A Journal Entry:
Well, I’ll Be Damned if I let New Year’s Eve 2021 go unnoticed by the Gods. So I decided to have an Orisha Drumming at my place to elevate the energies of the new year. It was the best time I’ve had all year. My buddy knew this Santero who is apart of a traditional drumming group. I got in touch with him and set it all up.
The evening started out with incantations and a sprinkling of holy waters. The candles were lit and the white table… la Blanca Mesa was set. Flowers and various foods were offered up…The smell of the cigars and rum mixture in the air…is what haunts me still …and permeated my clothes. I can still smell it on me. Then the hypnotic sound of their drums….and Her.
There was this one Santera who started acting funny in the middle of the dance floor.
They cleared the floor …she started convulsing. …and her eyes fluttered into the back of her head. Then she just got up…laughed….this girly laugh…flirtatious even. She danced with only the most handsome of the men that night. She had a fan and lipstick.
Oshun, some men whispered her name….they all wanted her. How could you resist? She would whisper fortunes and pass along spiritual messages from the Gods. She would tease and flirt with all the men. To watch her dance was a cross between a belly dancer and a ballerina. Whatever she was doing, everyone wanted to know what it was and copy her. Women were seething with jealousy as their men became putty in her hands. It was an interesting thing to watch.
I was hooked. It was unlike anything I had ever seen. She had the grace and fluidity of water. Ancient and stunningly beautiful.
She did tell me some things, which I tucked into my heart. I dare not even write it here. For she said not to. But all and all, the best party ever.
